The new static ready mix concrete batching plant by Rapid International Ltd has helped Bardon Concrete (Aggregate Industries)secure a contract to supply concrete to Carillion PLC for the extension to the Airdrie-Bathgate rail link in Scotland.
This new modular plant has enabled Bardon Concrete to improve their production capacity and become the new flagship plant at their Scotland Headquarters in Duntilland Quarry. This high profile location is in clear view when travelling on the M8. With the Rapid R3000 concrete pan mixer, six high capacity aggregate bins and four silos, Bardon Concrete can now produce a range of technically high specification concretes and screeds. The two outlets on the Rapid R3000 pan concrete mixer allows for two mixer trucks to be positioned underneath, allowing continuous concrete batching. In addition there is a completely separate batching facility for floor screeds such as the Bardon Highflow S, self levelling floor screed. This ensures that there is no possibility of contamination of oversize aggregates or cement. A special feature of the whole plant is that stepped access is provided to every area requiring maintenance or adjustment, including access to the tops of the silos. The work on the rail link forms part of a major project to improve rail links in Central Scotland that will provide a fully double-tracked and electrified line linking communities between Glasgow and Edinburgh, incorporating the existing Drumgelloch rail branch to the west and the existing Bathgate branch to the east.
